The sky-blue school bench
After losing her leg in an accident, Aria receives a prosthesis. But her new leg makes it uncomfortable to sit on the hard classroom floor. So she decides to take matters into her own hands and build a bench! The girls at school tell her she can't do it: only boys can build things. But Aria knows she can do anything she wants, and with the help of her mother, her brother and the town's kind carpenter, she finds the courage, peace and wisdom she needs for this new stage in her life.
Based on some of the author's personal experience growing up in Afghanistan, this beautiful story teaches perseverance in the face of adversity.
